Albany looks to encourage electric cars with recharge station

Albany looks to encourage electric cars with recharge stationAs a number of people are looking to save at the pump despite skyrocketing fuel prices, more consumers are choosing to head to the dealer for vehicles with a higher fuel efficiency.

Now, some residential areas are choosing to gear up for a potential influx of environmentally friendly vehicles. According to the Albany Times Union, the city of Albany, New York, will be building a charging station that will allow people to recharge their electric cars while they're away from home.

The project, which is estimated to cost $200,000, is being funded by the city, State Transportation Department, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, DeNooyer Chevrolet and VHB Engineering, Surveying and Landscape Architecture.

"It's the right answer and the future for the car business, the automotive industry," Joel DeNooyer, who works for DeNooyer Chevrolet, told the local news station Fox 23. "Everything will have to move that way, with the dependency on foreign oil and the environment."

While this may prompt more people to buy electric vehicles, individuals should be sure to use a car payment calculator in order to see how long it will take for them to pay off their vehicle.
