Drivers have tons of options when it comes to a used vehicle, especially once they’ve secured a car loan by applying online. Yet there are a few popular vehicles that drivers should look out for, as mechanical troubles may not make the car ideal for purchase.
That seems to be the case with Ford Windstar minivans made from 1999-2003. The New York Times reports that Ford will issue a recall on the vehicle after it was found that the rear axle could fail due to wear and tear.
The problem seems to occur mostly in states that use a lot of road salt. The company says that the rear axle’s unique design makes it easy for salt to attach to the axle. The salt can then corrode the part over time.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it has received 234 complaints about the problem, with reports of 2 accidents and no injuries.
Fortunately, drivers who need a minivan have a host of other options when it comes to finding a used car, including the Honda Odyssey, Chrysler Town and Country or Dodge Grand Caravan.
