Fuel-efficient cars impress on safety test

There’s no doubt the fuel-efficient hatchbacks and crossovers are some of the best cars for bad credit right now, especially with gas prices as high as they are. However, drivers shouldn’t compromise safety just because they’re looking for a smaller vehicle.

Fortunately, recent tests from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety have shown that there are a wide range of models that boast high MPG ratings as well as great safety protection. The organization recently awarded six models with its coveted “Top Safety Pick” award: the Hyundai Elantra, Nissan Juke, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Toyota Prius and Lexus CT200h. All of these cars passed front, side, rear and rollover crash tests with “good” ratings from the organization.

“The bottom line is that small-car safety is improving, and that many of the most fuel-efficient cars that are available today are now available with very high levels of crash protection, which wasn’t the case a few years ago,” chief research officer David Zuby told the New York Times.

Saving drivers money at the pump and potentially saving their lives in the case of an accident, this group of cars is sure to be near the top of the list of any driver applying for auto financing.
