Kate Middleton’s 2001 Volkswagen Golf worth twice what she paid for it

A 2001 Volkswagen Golf that was first owned by the Duchess of Cambridge is about to be put on auction by its second owner, Sonny Brazil. The 21-year-old Brit got the car for about £1,400 ($2,300) from the Middleton family in 2009, The Daily Mail reports.

Kate Middleton purchased the Volkswagen new for roughly $17,500 around the time she began dating Prince William, and only put about 60,000 miles on it.

“I went to an auction house in Dorset a few weeks ago and they said it would be worth £30,000 ($48,400) plus, purely because of the name in the log book,” Sonny told the news source.

The used car will go up for auction on eBay on Friday July 15, with a starting price of £20,000 ($32,000). The Kelley Blue Book value for this model year Golf is between $5,200 and $8,550, so Sonny will certainly be making quite a bit of profit.

The fuel economy for the Golf is pretty good considering the car is about 10 years old – the manual transmission model gets 24 miles-per-gallon (mpg) in the city and 31 mpg highway, MSN reports. A used Golf could be a good choice for people who are looking to purchase cars with bad credit car loans.
