Mobile apps allow consumers to shop for cars on-the-go

Mobile apps allow consumers to shop for cars on-the-goAutotrader.com created a free application that allows iPhone users to browse nearby dealers and cars for sale. Users who have auto-focus cameras on their iPhones can scan VIN numbers to see if the car is posted for sale on AutoTrader.com. Scanning the VIN will also allow users to view similar vehicles that are available on the site.

The program can help consumers find the best cars for bad credit – with search options such as make and model, location, price, year and new or used models. Car shoppers can email or call dealers directly from the application, view pictures of listed vehicles and post their finds on their Facebook pages.

Chip Perry, Autotrader.com's president and CEO, said that the new application creates "a seamless PC-to-pocket experience where shoppers can take their searches on the road without sacrificing functionality."

When a buyer wants to find out more about a potential car that is being sold by a dealership, he or she can use the program's interactive map feature to locate the vehicle. The application also allows users to view available cars by dealer.
