The best vehicles for older drivers are designed to address common driving discomforts, visibility problems and other factors that can affect an older person’s driving ability.
Comprehensive safety features, including front and side airbags and excellent crash test safety ratings, are important features in a fitting vehicle for a mature driver, according to Consumer Reports.
Since visibility may be important to older drivers, side and rear view mirrors must be easily adjustable. An adjustable steering wheel and power seats may also be helpful in ensuring the comfort and safety of older drivers. Controls that are easy to see and access are also beneficial, as they may allow an older driver to more easily change radio or heating settings without being distracted from the road.
Consumer Reports has chosen a few fitting vehicles based on these criteria. They include the Honda Odyssey, the Subaru Forester, the Honda Accord and the Kia Rondo.
