Hyundai, Kia working to shed “budget” image

Choosing a brand can be an important step in deciding on the right car, as each brand offers something different. Drivers shopping for a new car should familiarize themselves with these brands in order to know what they’re getting in a new vehicle.

During the economic downturn, many have turned to Hyundai and Kia as affordable budget options. The South Korean automaker has posted strong sales numbers and is looking to crack the top six in U.S. sales. The company has also penetrated car buyers’ consciousness, as it was revealed to be the fifth most considered brand among car buyers, as revealed by Kelley Blue Book.

While the company is known for making affordable vehicles, Hyundai is hoping to shed its “budget” image by offering some more eye-catching designs and upscale options within the next few years, according to Automotive News. The company hopes that a slight redesign to some models will allow it to still offer cars at a low price while reaching new consumers.

Kia is being aimed a younger demographic, and a few of the models will be redesigned to have a sportier look, like the Optima. Meanwhile, Hyundai plans to branch into the luxury segment with an Equus sedan that will retail for over $60,000.
